How to wear your Helite airbag correctly

Getting the fit right matters. An airbag that is adjusted too loosely, or closed incorrectly, will not sit the way it is designed to. Here is how to check you are wearing it correctly.

Choosing the right size

Measure yourself over a t-shirt or a thin jumper, not over your riding jacket, then check your measurements against the size chart for your specific model. The GP Air and e-GP Air are the exception, as they are sized over a race suit.

Adjusting the fit

A correctly adjusted vest should be snug enough that you can still fit a fist underneath it, not looser than that. Close all clips or velcro fully before riding. On the e-Turtle, this means adjusting the straps and closing all 3 clips. On the e-GP Air, it means positioning the velcro correctly and closing it.

Confirming it is ready to ride

On the mechanical system, clip the lanyard to the bike before you set off. We cover exactly where to anchor it in our tether strap installation guide. On the electronic system, press the power button three times quickly and look for a flashing green LED along with a beep, which confirms the vest is active.

Make it a habit

Treat connecting your airbag the same way you would a seatbelt. Clip in or switch on every time you get on the bike, and disconnect or switch off before you get off.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my airbag is adjusted correctly?

You should be able to fit a fist underneath it once adjusted. It should feel snug rather than loose, with all clips or velcro fully closed.

How do I pick the right size?

Measure yourself over a t-shirt or a thin jumper, then check your measurements against the size chart for your specific model. The GP Air and e-GP Air are sized over a race suit.

How do I know the electronic vest is switched on?

Press the power button three times quickly. A flashing green LED along with a beep confirms it is active.

Should I wear the airbag over or under my jacket?

It depends on the model. Several are designed to be worn over your existing jacket, while others are built into a jacket you wear as your outer layer.

Can I try it on before buying to check the fit?

Yes, dealers can usually let you try the gear on and even demonstrate a test inflation, which is a good way to confirm sizing before you commit.
