Privacy policy

This policy explains how Helite NZ collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you visit helite.co.nz, buy from us, register a warranty, or otherwise deal with us in New Zealand.

1. Who we are

Helite NZ is the trading name of Impact Protection Systems Ltd (NZBN 9429053650764), an official New Zealand distributor of Helite airbag protection products, based in Auckland. For the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020, Impact Protection Systems Ltd is the agency responsible for the personal information described in this policy. Questions or requests about your information can be sent to contact@helite.co.nz. 

2. What we collect, and how

We collect information you give us directly: your name, contact and delivery details, order history, account details, warranty registration details (serial number and purchase date), wholesale or trade enquiry details, and any messages you send us. We also collect technical information automatically through cookies (see section 4), and occasionally receive information indirectly, for example from our payment processor, courier, or Helite SARL in connection with a warranty claim.

We don't knowingly collect health information, except where you choose to share a personal story with us and give express permission to use it. Our products and website are intended for adults, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

3. Why we use it

We use your information to process orders and payments, arrange delivery, manage your account, administer warranty registrations with Helite SARL, respond to enquiries, send marketing updates where you've opted in, understand and improve our website, and meet our legal and accounting obligations. We only use information for the purpose it was collected for, or a closely related purpose.

4. Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies and similar tools, including Shopify's essential store cookies, Google Analytics and Search Console, Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel, Microsoft Clarity, and our email marketing platform. Not all of these are live yet; they'll be switched on progressively as our website build is completed. You can manage or block cookies through your browser settings.

5. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only as needed, with: Shopify (our website host and order processor), our payment providers, NZ Post/CourierPost and any other couriers we use, Helite SARL in France (warranty and product support), the analytics, advertising, and email marketing tools named in section 4, our professional advisers, and anyone we're legally required to disclose to.

Some of these providers, including Shopify, Meta, Google, and Helite SARL, hold or process data overseas. Where we disclose information to an organisation outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is subject to comparable privacy safeguards, as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

6. Storage, security, and how long we keep it

Your information is stored electronically with Shopify and the providers named above, who apply their own security measures; we take reasonable steps on our end to protect it from loss or misuse. We keep information only as long as reasonably needed, including for tax and accounting purposes (generally at least seven years for transaction records). If a privacy breach occurs that has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.

7. Your rights, and marketing opt-out

You can ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, and to access or correct it, by emailing contact@helite.co.nz. We'll respond within the timeframes the Privacy Act 2020 requires, and may need to verify your identity first. Every marketing email includes a free, working unsubscribe link, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007; opting out won't affect essential messages such as order confirmations or warranty correspondence.

8. Complaints and changes to this policy

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal information, contact us first at contact@helite.co.nz so we can try to put it right. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, which enforces the Privacy Act 2020, at privacy.org.nz or 0800 803 909.

We may update this policy occasionally, for example as our website, tools, or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
